“I came to Louise scared and confused, not really understanding what I was feeling, why I was feeling these feelings or how to cope with them. Louise has been caring, understanding and supportive. She has helped me develop an extensive understanding of what anxiety is and why I was feeling the way I was. This understanding in itself helped me immensely, then paired with learning CBT & mindfulness techniques to help manage anxiety, I can safely say Louise has helped me change for the better! I can’t thank her enough and would strongly recommend her to anyone struggling with their mental health.”

Meet Louise Wheeler

Psychotherapist, Accredited CBT Therapist

About Me

Professional experience, compassionate support and a personalised approach to therapy.

I am a qualified Mental Health Nurse, EMDR & Cognitive Behavioural Therapist & with over 20 years of experience working within the NHS. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties across different clinical settings.

I currently work as a Psychological Therapist within the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), as part of the By Your Side (BYS) team, specialising in supporting individuals who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss.

Alongside my NHS role, I work in private practice, offering psychological therapy to individuals who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem and other emotional difficulties.

I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting. You may be unsure where to begin, find it difficult to talk about your experiences or simply feel that you need some support to make sense of what you are going through.

My aim is to offer a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you feel comfortable being yourself.

My Experience and Training

I have extensive experience working with a range of psychological difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

  • Health anxiety

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Panic disorder

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Social anxiety and specific phobias

  • Self-esteem difficulties

  • Pregnancy and baby loss

I have completed advanced specialist training in several therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

I draw upon evidence-based psychological approaches, tailoring therapy to your individual needs and goals.

My Approach

I believe that you are the expert in your own experience, and my role is to work alongside you to help you understand your difficulties and explore ways of moving forward.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate and person-centred. I value the importance of building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel listened to, respected and understood.

I also believe therapy does not always need to feel formal or clinical. I aim to create a relaxed and welcoming environment, where there is space for honesty, reflection and, where appropriate, a little humour.

Whether you are experiencing a particular difficulty, working through a challenging life experience or simply feel that something needs to change, I will work with you at a pace that feels manageable.

You don’t have to navigate everything on your own. Taking the first step towards support can be the beginning of meaningful change.
